There comes a point in time when you stumble across something brilliant and you become obsessed with it. For the past few days, I’ve been dealing with a lot and emotionally I became drained. I had come across the cover to Lion Babe’s INSANELY DOPE “Treat Me Like Fire” and thought “That cover’s dope. Very 70s blaxploitation-era. Gotta check it out.” Days went by and I came across the video.
Well….dammit, Jillian is the shit. Point blank. Astro Raw is the shit. Point blank. Aside from the fact that she’s Vanessa Williams’ daughter, aside from the fact that she’s fuckin hot, there’s this genius thing about her voice and Astro’s production that sucks you in. I can honestly say (and I hope they see this and feel their hard work paying off) I HAVE BEEN LISTENING TO THIS SONG FOR THE PAST WEEK. I havent really listened to my own mixtape since I saw the video. So needless to say, I’m a fan.
The other insanely genius thing about Lion Babe is “Treat Me Like Fire” marks their first collaborative effort together. Jillian, a trained dancer, said in a recent interview that she just started singing. JUST STARTED? OMG, her voice has this really earthy, sassy, Badu-esque tone thats so sexy and refreshing all at the same time.
Wow, I really just went in but I feel that real, genuine and honest music doesn’t get the burn that it deserves. But as Jillian said in an interview recently (I think she said it), there’s this shift going on in music and it’s just gonna take Ears with Feet to ignite the revolution of real artistry. I know for a fact Lion Babe will be a part of it.
